# View maps and terrain in Japan

> Add Map viewing to explore the world map and hillshade or 3D terrain in Japan.

Map viewing lets you explore cities around the world and see the shape of mountains and valleys in Japan. Use it in a desktop or mobile browser.

## Add Map viewing

1. An organization owner or administrator opens the service catalog using “Add a service” in the sidebar.
2. Add “Map viewing”.
3. Open “Maps” in the sidebar. The map starts in Hiroshima.

## Change the place and display

Drag the map to move around. Use the “+” and “−” controls to zoom. The “Hiroshima”, “Mount Fuji”, “Japan” and “World” buttons take you to those views.

| Display | What it shows |
| --- | --- |
| Flat | The world map |
| Hillshade | Shading based on elevation data in Japan |
| 3D terrain | A tilted, three-dimensional view of terrain in Japan |

Terrain and elevation data cover Japan. To compare views, go to Mount Fuji and switch between Hillshade and 3D terrain.

The service currently supports viewing maps. Place search, saved pins, directions and adding places through muku are not available yet.

## If the map does not load

Check your connection and select “Reload map”. If only the terrain fails, you can keep using the flat map and select “Retry terrain”. Enable WebGL in your browser, or use a browser that supports it.
