Authenticator app codes (two-factor authentication)
You can add a 6-digit code from an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator) as a second step when you log in. Setting it up is optional.
- Once it is set up, you are asked for the code after you log in with an email code, Google, Apple, or GitHub.
- You are not asked when you log in with a passkey.
- When you set it up, you get 10 backup codes. Use them if you can’t use your authenticator app.
- If you select Don’t ask again on this device for 30 days, that device does not ask you for a while.
You set it up and turn it off from Authenticator app in Settings > Account. When you turn it off, you get an email to let you know.
